"Up and Down the River"
Immersive sound masterpiece shocks the heart
During this year's May Day holiday, the large-scale Yellow River-themed immersive sound drama "Up and Down the Great River" made its stunning debut at the Hualin Grand Theater in Quancheng Oulebao, Dezhou, Shandong! This work, with its grand narrative and majestic momentum, not only showcases the magnificent epic of the 5,000-year Yellow River civilization, but also, relying on the internationally leading immersive sound reinforcement system, brings an "immersive" audio-visual feast to the entire audience of 3,200 people.
Hualin Grand Theatre, with its 62-meter ultra-wide stage, 18-meter ceiling height, and 3,600-square-meter grand auditorium, stands as a rare ultra-wide indoor theater in China. However, facing such a vast space, intricate stage design, and stringent requirements for precise sound positioning, the traditional sound reinforcement system proves inadequate.
CADAC·China has tailored a complete immersive sound reinforcement system solution for "The River Runs Through It". The system primarily utilizes the immersive sound processor from the internationally renowned professional digital audio brand, UK-based CADAC, paired with audio systems from Germany's Kling & Freitag (K&F), the UK's Studiomaster (recording master), and the Yingwang brand, to form a comprehensive immersive sound reinforcement system. Compared to traditional sound reinforcement systems, where sound energy mainly comes from the front of the stage and only a few "emperor seats" of the audience can experience accurate sound image localization, the Hualin Grand Theater presents a revolutionary auditory experience in terms of the width, depth, and height of the sound field. The sound energy is evenly distributed throughout the vast sound field, with stunning clarity and fullness. Moreover, no matter where you are in the audience, you can accurately capture the actors' movements and precise localization of sound effects. Coupled with highly creative stage design, mechanical and special effects visuals, it creates a deep immersive audio-visual experience that traditional sound reinforcement systems cannot achieve, making every audience member feel as if they are immersed in the long history of the Yellow River, deeply shocked, moved, and unforgettable by the historical scenes unfolding before them.
Immersive sound processor
The system is equipped with the CP32 immersive sound audio processor from the high-end British brand CADAC. Its computing core adopts the HOA (Harmonic Order Analysis) spherical harmonic immersive sound algorithm and runs an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) processing mechanism, ensuring that no additional redundant data is generated during high-frequency and long-duration operation, which affects the overall system stability. In addition, the digital vertical audio link system doubles the efficiency of project debugging and delivery. The rendering of the immersive sound processor upgrades the original two-dimensional 5.1 format audio source to three-dimensional immersive sound effects, greatly enhancing the audiovisual immersion of the entire scene and bringing an extremely shocking viewing experience to the audience.

Main sound reinforcement system
The main sound reinforcement system for the stage utilizes the SPECTRA 212 three-way full-range line array speakers from Germany's Kling & Freitag (K&F). Depending on the specific application scenario, this series of loudspeakers can be used as point source loudspeakers, or as horizontal or vertical line array loudspeakers. Their unique multi-combination mode is fully utilized in this project, with speakers on both sides of the stage forming a horizontal line array to cover a wide area. The speakers directly above the stage switch to vertical array mode as a center channel, providing precise and stable sound image localization. This loudspeaker is paired with the K&F D series digital network amplifier, ensuring a stable and reliable system with excellent sound quality.

To ensure that every audience member at the venue can enjoy an excellent immersive listening experience, the system utilizes dozens of E-series point source loudspeakers from Studiomaster (Recording Master) in the UK. These loudspeakers are carefully arranged in the left, right, rear, and top of the auditorium, collectively creating a highly immersive surround sound field.

Facing the challenge of a net depth of 52 meters in the auditorium (twice that of a conventional theater), to ensure the sound quality for the audience in the back rows, several Yingwang G310 dual 10-inch three-way line array speakers were installed as supplementary loudspeakers on both sides of the theater's catwalk level.

To present the majestic momentum of the surging Yellow River, multiple Studiomaster E218 dual 18-inch subwoofers were vertically stacked on both sides of the stage, providing deep and powerful subwoofer energy.

Reliable power supply
The power amplifier serves as the driving source of the audio system, which utilizes the Studiomaster QX series power amplifier for driving. Its key feature lies in its redundancy backup capability: in the event of a failure in the main power amplifier, the backup power amplifier can automatically and seamlessly switch within 10ms, ensuring zero interruption in the performance. The built-in high-performance DSP processor, coupled with intelligent network control software, guarantees long-term stable operation of the system.

Throughout the entire performance, the sound of the Yellow River, human voices, singing, and all other sound effects were perfectly presented through the "immersive sound" system. The ability to achieve such an effect in such a large-scale theater fully demonstrates the excellence and leadership of this immersive sound technology, setting a new benchmark for cultural tourism performances!
The comprehensive application of immersive sound systems in both new construction and renovation of existing markets has become an essential innovative technology for theaters, performance venues, and various engineering projects. Its emergence and scientific application are major indicators of high-quality development in industries such as cultural tourism, education, and hospitality.
